From the Producer of the soon to be released docu-drama Spread Some Love (Relationships 101) The MOVIE + and the Author of “The 5 Steps To Changing Your Life,” “Spread Some Love” (Relationships 101) and “Spread Some Love (Relationships 101) WORKBOOK” comes “WHEN THE DUST SETTLES” an amazing inspirational story about one man’s struggle to survive in a “snake” infested industry: Where dreamers flock and the venom is lethal.
A “will not be denied” True Hollywood Story by John A. Andrews.
In life there are movers, shakers and detonators. Men made with that extra ordinary quality, and would not be denied of their rightful place in society. They seem to have what some may call “iron in their blood” and are driven by that steel-like-will-not-be-denied quality to succeed against all odds.
We’ve not only seen this extra-ness demonstrated in a man’s athletic ability but also in every combative situation in which their involvement occurred.
In 1990, Michael Jordan while playing for the Chicago Bulls, pursued respect for himself and his team by scoring three times his jersey number as he dropped 69 points on the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In 1940 Sir Winston Churchill, elected as Britain’s Prime Minister delivered his famous “blood, toil and sweat” address. Victory is our aim, victory at all costs, victory in spite of terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there can be non survival. He also said, “Success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” Churchill bent on perseverance led Britain through multiple wars with both his courage and strong determination. “His bull-dog determination smashed through every obstacle that stood in the road to victory. Dubbed as
the “bull dog warrior,” friend and foe alike knew the meaning of his raised two forefingers which formed a “V”- victory at all costs.
I have already unveiled what drives us as men. But how do we acquire this awesome propellant? What causes us to rise to the occasion no matter what odds come against us? Is it something that we were born with -inherited from our genes? How did we get it? Is it something we acquired from a coach or some other leader who, as if by design, stepped into our life? Is it the refining process which brings out the best in us during our struggle me to swim upstream? Is it inspiration? Is it belief?
As you assimilate my Hollywood Story, rest assured you will not only get introduced to me but will encounter with this all powerful motivating factor.
Conversely, most of us were born to succeed, yet most of us acclimatize toward failure. What changes within us that causes us to choose the path of least resistance?
A baby elephant once chained to a stake, tugged and tugged, unable to set itself free. His leg bled and ached for some time. After several years later, the conditioned animal - though full grown, the spike removed and the wound healed - now an adult elephant yet he refuses to set himself free. That’s how most of us live our lives – mentally chained to our previous errors in judgment state of affairs.
I’m always amazed by the genius in kids and their nothing is impossible mindset. However as these same kids become adults, conditioned by their environment to fail - their goals and dreams suddenly look unreachable. They sometimes let dream stealers question their abilities as well as their ideas. Unintentionally or maliciously they inject them with venom, killing their dreams along with their desire to accomplish great things.
I admire in us, that undeniable quality: that will to win – being unstoppable. Whenever a problem presents itself, we view it as a challenge and we either go through it, over it, under it or around it. Finally if none of those methods prove to be successful, we view ourselves more bigger and better than anything that could ever happen to us. The latter technique causes whatever seemed to have stood in our way to ultimately detonate itself.
In the movie The Good, the Bad and the Ugly actor Clint Eastwood plays the role of the heroic character – The
Good. In the oncoming troops scene an army of men emerged upon him and the Ugly. These soldiers were dust laden all over their bodies and their horses. The leader of the troops jumped off his of horse, then using a dust cloth he dusted a portion of the previously accumulated dust off his jacket sleeve. He didn’t have to say much about his rather adventurous journey – probably filled with bumps, bruises, sandstorms and defeats. He no doubt had lost some of those tough battles but be rest assured he wasn’t going to lose the war.
What caused me to rise from being a struggling actor to the author of several books, a screenwriter, movie producer and a stellar entrepreneur? What propelled me from the divorced and lonely to being embraced by the world?
Come with me, fasten your seatbelt as I take you on my journey through the hub of the entertainment industry- Hollywood. Here the stakes are high, dreamers are a-dime-a-dozen, here the “blacklist” philosophy which will be discussed later is used frequently to keep one at bay, here people with the crabs in a basket mentality have embarked on pulling back so many including myself, constantly towards the bottom.
Hollywood, known for its many bureaucratic delays, degrees of unfairness, racism, crabs in a basket philosophy, snakelike philosophy, nepotism, and inequities of all kinds, is still a place where hard work, guts and strong determination is the call to massive success.
Here, just about everyone claims to have a dream of becoming more or doing great things in life, yet give
up when attacked. In a sense they tuck their tails between their legs and run away from their dream - Giving up on the vision. They become blinded from the dust along the road toward becoming their best - which is still yet to come.
Thomas Edison an expert on failure said “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close
they were to success when they gave up.”
